US Congressman Dan Burton to address FICAC European Regional Conference

The Honourable Arnold Foote, President of the World Federation of Consuls (FICAC), along with FICAC’s Secretary General, Mr Aykut Eken, and the Chairman of FICAC International Relations Committee, Mr Costas Lefkaritis, met recently with United States Congressman Dan Burton in Washington DC.

Congressman Burton is Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Sub-Committee on Europe and Eurasia, and a Senior Member on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. During the meeting, the business of the World Federation was discussed. Congressman Burton was impressed with the Federation, the large number of countries that were members and the extent of its activities worldwide. At the end of the meeting, Arnold Foote thanked Congressman Burton for receiving the FICAC delegation and invited the US Congressman to be the keynote speaker at the FICAC European Regional Consular Conference, scheduled to take place in Brussels at the Château Sainte-Anne, February 23, 2012. Mr Burton graciously accepted the invitation. He will be the first United States Congressman to address the World Federation of Consuls. A presentation of a FICAC award of appreciation was made to Mr Burton at the end of the meeting.

The FICAC delegation held similar meetings with Congresswoman Virginia Foxx, Congresswoman Yvette Clarke and Congressman Alcee Hastings.
